My 3 pieces of artwork have been rejected. No this isn't the end of the world, but it is a setback of sorts. I will continue to do my political satire, and I will continue to enter pieces in juried art shows and I will take my rejection slips and go back to the drawing board and try and make better works of art. One of these days perhaps one of my pieces will make it.

Don't despair, although I know the intitial reaction is disappointment. But, 'Persistence' has to be your middle name. It's mine too! Good to read that you will keep entering awards. You just have to.

Juried shows have their limitations. Back before the open sharing days of the internet an art network flourished in the mail. Sometimes called Mail Art, other times called Postal Art. It was really big in the 1980s. Invitations would go out for people to send art to a non juried show. Then a catalog would be created of participants in that show so mail artists could find one another and more shows for their various collaborative endeavors. Mail Art is very egalitarian.
Since more open sharing of creativity is now common place on the internet, Mail Art isn't as unique as it was in the 1980s. The tradition continues among some folks who practiced it in earlier days, but the practice of open networking has now grown to way beyond the earlier networks such as Mail Art.
I agree with Kathryn - persistence pays. That said, I wonder what the mindset is of the person(s) that judged these pieces - do they truly understand Art - or are they looking for "Artistic"?
