I read. I read books. I read magazines. I read the Sunday New York Times, and I read what is on the Internet, but I should stop watching TV news. Watching these guys and gals is getting to be the most frustrating part of my day. Yesterday, I caught myself talking to the TV screen. Those idiots are making an idiot out of me.
Every American has their own perspective of the political-economic events that unfold in Washington, D.C., and I am no exception. I have written my opinions concerning President Obama's attempts to work with the Republicans in Congress. I have my opinions, and while they are grounded in my experience of living in this country for 67 years, I realize that others can have viewed the same events and come away with a totally different picture.
But, I am not changing my mind on this one. You can throw my NFL black quarterback analogy out the window, but I am staying with it. The talking heads may not be able to call it as they see it, but I am not on TV and I don't make a dime from writing this blog. I write what I think. They, the talking heads, may bring the civil rights issue into the picture by way of the higher percentage of black unemployment in the United States, but they will not hit the nail on the head until they start talking about the fact that there are no black Republicans in Congress and that essentially the Republican Party, and the direction it is going, is more exclusionary and white than it has ever been in its long history.
Where are the Liberal Republicans? The answer is: they are all dead. Where are the moderate Republicans? The answer: On there way to being dead figuratively and literally. The Republican Party that adopted the Southern Strategy is not the Republican Party of Jacob Javits and Nelson Rockefeller. That Republican Party is dead.

I like to read your thoughts and opinions. It gives me some idea what life is like on your side of the world.
Jientje, that is so nice of you to say, but I am hardly a centrist opinion. I may be a centrist in Canada or Europe, but in the USA, I am way left of center on so many issues.
When it comes to my opinions on the economy, I am in the Liberal Camp, but with one exception, I believe in free markets with a healthy regulatory structure and enforcement. In MONEYTHOUGHTS world, there would be a lot more Wall Streeters in jail or facing trial for what passed as acceptable behavior!!!
I read an article the other day, can't remember by who, but essentially said the United States is proving that it cannot rule. I agree.
The message we are sending the rest of the world:
....our form of government and capitalism is not as great as we had you believe.
As an aside:
McCain wants to run for re-election...one of his ads states "he wants to continue fighting for the common man". Say What! It goes on to say "he is fighting Obama every inch". Hey..I don't want a fighter..I want cooperation and to make it better for the average joe.
Hayworth (a real blowhard) wants to unseat McCain as the Republican nomination.
Am I really living in reality?
If I ever make a pocketful of cash, I'm getting out of this country. The catacombs of Paris need me. And I would be happy to partake of their excellent health care system.
Oh, and I get so many views on Thursdays because I am participating in Jenny Matlock's Alphabe-Thursday. You can blog about anything you like provided it starts with that weeks letter. It's not too late to join! Next week - E
Boy, you've said it now. I guess I never thought about checking this fact out. Have I become too accepting? Damn, I hope not.
There is only one agenda on TV and the talk shows. If it's news and will make money by increasing viedwership then they will talk about it. Doesn't mean they are right or that they will always have your best interest at heart. Few, very few, will be in the middle of the road and just give you facts without opinions. So few that I can't think of one.
I never thought you were a centrist. But I value your opinions.
